Starlink provides internet access to over 40 countries globally, with Tanzania set to become the third country in Africa after Nigeria and Mozambique The service will be available in the East African country from the first quarter of 2023 and will be expected to boost the country's digital economy Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) director general Jabiri Bakari confirmed that Starlink had submitted an application seeking regulatory approval.

"Yes, I am aware that the company had made an application through a portal," Bakari said. Starlink's fast internet speed Starlink, one of the companies owned by Musk, will provide stiff competition to local service providers with fast speeds of up to 150mbps. 

University of Dar es Salaam economist Abel Kinyondo explained that the internet is a basic need and no longer a luxury. "Internet service is no longer a luxury but something which is a basic need.
