Tanzania Ranked Third in East Africa, Seventh in Africa for Giving Opportunities Access to Women

Tanzania has been ranked third in East Africa and seventh in the list of African nations that have made great strides in ensuring women's access to various opportunities.

According to the Female Opportunity Index 2021, Tanzania scored 69.92 points followed by Uganda with 69.5 points. Rwanda ranked first in East Africa with 77.83 points while Kenya become second with 70.4 points.

“Tanzania has the most women in government positions followed by Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt and Ethiopia,” read part of the report. 

The study was conducted by a German organization, N26, across 100 countries in the world collecting data of 1970 to 2020. 

The report looked at various factors such as advancements in female leadership within government, corporations, women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and entrepreneurship, as well as success enablers like access to education and parental leave.
